1 in 4 people suffer from a mental illness, and yet it is still a widely misunderstood subject. Over time mental illness within art has been portayed as ‘demonic’ or has been dramatised for the affect of the work. This is why I wanted to create this very personal project, ‘Dear Diary’. Working with a close friend, we created visual representaions of emotions or experiences when suffering from anxiety or depression.  This work becomes an artistic insight to the real affects of mental illness on a perons day to day life. Contributing to the need for awareness and edcuation on the realities of mental illness,  bringing the silent suffering of so many to light.
